WTD: Speed display from Arduino

Hello all - this is my first post so i'll try to be as informative as possible.

I have majorly updated the dashboard in my car and I would like to fit a digital speedo using some 7 segment LED displays, like this:-

I have a friend who has used a Arduino Diecimila with an LCD display (that he says plugs in the top of the Arduino) to show speed on a project he's doing - so I know the speed issue can be done.

Would it be possible to get the speed displayed on 2 or 3 of them 7 segment displays?

It's definatly possible and would be a great project. Let us know how you're doing. Take a look at the playground at arduino.cc for some ideas.

Thanks for your replies but there is the issue!

I am capable of following instructions and building/soldering things, but i'm no programmer and I don't know how to work circuits out :-/

So I was hoping to get some hints and help on what to buy and how to wire it all together.

I know it's a lot to ask for but I would be eternally grateful!! :wink:
