Xbee and atmega128rfa1

Dear all,

I have 2 sparkfun atmega128rfa1 boards and a Xbee S2. I would like to connect these devices by Zigbee. I have setup a network between the 2 sparkfun board using the sparkfun library. Now I will also connect the Xbee S2 to this network using the same channel and PAN ID’s. but this is not working. Has some one experience whit connecting the Xbee and atmega128rfa1?

Tnx,
Jeroen

The ATMega128RFA1 should be compatible with the XBee S2 modules. They both use IEEE 802.15.4 at 2.4 GHz so the MAC and PHY are compatible. Unfortunately, unless you're running a Zigbee stack that's known to be interoperable with the one the Digi XBee is using, they probably won't communicate.

If you're not sure if there is data going over the air, you might want to check out an 802.15.4 protocol analyzer. Here's an article I wrote on how to convert one of the boards I make into an 802.15.4 sniffer to monitor and decode the traffic over the air. It would work with both the XBee and the ATMega128RFA1.
