I desoldered the top resistor on my Adafruit boards (the one connected to the Red RSSI LED) as it was easier to remove than the LED. X-CTU terminal is now clear of data. I've yet to do a send/receive test, but as they were talking before (albeit with the garbage data in between), I have confidence they will work fine now.
If you are building your boards from scratch, you might as well not put either component on (the RSSI LED and the top resistor).
