I'd suspect something electrically interfering with the XBees where you are, then. Could you try taking them somewhere else?
Could be. I would have thought that more likely if it was a 2.4GHz radio (there are 20+ wifi networks visible...) instead of 900MHz, but I'll give it a try tomorrow anyway.
