Xbee S2 configuration problem

Hi, I have recently downloaded the X-CTU software from digi.com and I have a problem finding the radio module. When I try to add the radio module, it shows the ports connect to the laptop as "arduino uno com 6" instead of USB serial port (com xx). I was wondering if it is because I connected the Xbee to a Xbee V03 shield and connect the shield to an arduino uno board. The X-CTU software is just reading the arduino uno board instead of the xbee right?

And I'm not sure if the xbee can be connected to a xbee v03 shield and the shield to be connected to arduino uno?

Please help.

Thank you!

It doesn't matter what it's called if it works.

I would suggest connecting xbee shield directly to computer USB while configuring the module using X-CTU. Once its configured you can unplug from USB and connect to Arduino.

Hi, is it not supposed to be connected like that?

Dropbox - Error (picture of how I connected the xbee)

the one on top is a xbee s2 series, in the middle is a xbee v03 shield and at the bottom is an arduino uno board.

I have watched some videos about the xbee configuration and most of the xctu software reads it as an usb serial port on (com XX) whereas for mine, since I connected it in this manner, it reads the arduino uno at com 6 instead.

It is because I only have these xbee and xbee v03 shield to explore with for my project. I was wondering if I have to buy the xbee breakout board or the usb adapter for the xbee

I am not sure whether this setup will work. I use XBee Explorer for configuring it. You can go for a cheap explorer, the one in the link looks pretty expensive. Have a look at http://www.ebay.com/itm/XBee-Explorer-Xbee-USB-adapter-with-free-WFB-/121769115190?hash=item1c5a013e36:g:rDcAAOSwY45UNOiG
