I have been frustrated trying to work with xbees. I am trying to send Serial data from an xbee connected to an Arduino (via SainSmart Xbee shield) to an xbee connected t an explorer board into the computer. I have set the one xbee to Coordinator[1] and the other to End Device[0], using X-ctu. Any advice about what I can do. I have a deadline in February!!! (If you need links or the codes, let me know)
If you're using a UNO and "SoftSerial", it's very likely your problem is there and not with the XBees. If you try your code and it works ok with a Mega2560 or other board they provides a 2nd hardware UART [in place of SoftSerial], then at least you begin to know where the problem is.
Possible problem with XBee, UNO, SoftSerial, or program code - got to narrow down the odds.
I am currently using an UNO and the code uploads without a problem. What is SoftSerial. Does it connect to UART and DLINE because my shield doesn't have the UART DLINE switch. ![]()
With a UNO, it's a little bit difficult to set things up. You cannot connect the XBee to the UNO Rx,Tx pins at the same time as you're connecting the UNO to the PC IDE via USB. So it's a little difficult to both setup the XBee using the AT commands and communicate with it. With 2 hardware UARTs, like on a Mega2560 board, you can communicate both ways with no problems. SoftSerial allows you to do RS232 in software, but it doesn't always work so well.
You need to do some research on this. Find a bunch of links on google, and start reading.
