Year 2014, Qualcomm's 8-core Snapdragon 615 to go into production

Qualcomm's 8-core Snapdragon 615 to go into production .

Qualcomm is about to commence volume production of its first octa-core chipset, the Snapdragon 615, reports DigiTimes.

The company will also be releasing their new 64-bit chipsets, the Snapdragon 810 and Snapdragon 808 before the end of the year 2014. The 810 and the 808 will be fabricated using TSMC's 20nm process.

The Snapdragon 615 is aimed at the upcoming mid-range smartphones whereas the 810 and 806 will be targeting the high end segment. Other than being the company's first octa-core chipsets, the 810 and 808 are also Qualcomm's first 64-bit chipset.

The company has derided both octa-core and 64-bit processors in the past but had to eventually resort to coming up with their own products to keep up with consumer demands.

Where we heading with these processors? - i mean in say 20 years time, 2034, what on earth could possibly be crammed inside a mobile device, Moor's Law!

Can we use these SOCs with arduino ?

having processor, ram, storage, communications and io in one chip would be super handy even if it is BGA

Uh... it could, but there's an awful lot of room in between. Cortex M0 for instance...
