Why thank you LarryD but nothing quite so grand.
Sadly Travis, I don't think we can accommodate the drum kit

Hi,
The NEW JAYCAR CATALOGUE with Silicon Chip magazine... yaaaaayyyyy....

I am so glad I didn't go down the DIY path.
Yes, put your efforts into doing stuff with the the CNC, not reinventing the CNC

can even do some aluminum cnc work. Slow and shallow, with a small tip. But it gets the job done. Maybe. I have some doubts that the printer parts will stand up to the torque involved, coupled with the vibration of the router. I'm working on a new corexy build atm, but, if i was going to get a cnc, this one would be it. I might consider a cnc strap on for my core xy build, but, i kind of doubt it. CNC gets messy and i don't really have the space...

now, the idea i had was to build a small CNC using a Dremel rotary tool for light carving on wood. I am still doing my research, but i think i can make it work.

Bear in mind that the bearings on a Dremel are not designed for side loads.
That Makita is the router my machine came with.
The little one.
Are you sure that dremels arent meant for side load? They sell plenty of attachements meant to cut side waze instead of down.
for instance...

A Dremel tool is meant for light duty short 'on' times (small motor brushes, small rotor wire).
Yes you can use a carving bit, but not for long periods of operation.

Yes you can.
For light cutting or abrading with the supplied tools it is useful.
Withe a lot of use (i use for deburring etc) i noticed that the runout would be noticeable, easily breaking carbide drills.
Not suitable for CNC routing use i would suggest.
I have a rather upmarket high speed spindle which uses double bearings at both nose and rear.
Runout is measured in millionths of an inch.
Bearings are also rather expensive, ceramic ones which cost.
Note that there are a lot of different "dremel tools" out there these days. IIRC, the original Dremel was a pretty decent tool, but a lot of the newer models were aimed at reducing costs for "light" users...

I have had a few , current s the LION battery model.
Great tool.
Breaking of carbide drills is a problem with some use although the required drill press assembly does contribute to that somewhat as it lacks the required rigidity.
Reel of 0.1uF, 25V SMT capacitors. 0402-sized, which I'm not sure I can pick up with tweezers, much less place accurately on a PCB. But at $2 for the full reel (10000 parts) at WeirdStuff, it was irresistible.
(Several more 0402 reels at the same price at WeirdStuff, if you're in the SF Bay area. Also some 0603 sized, though not in such standard values.)
