Yun availability - winding down or steady?

I am concerned to see gaps in availability of the Yun recently. Today, Adafruit and my local MicroCenter are out of stock, Amazon has increased prices to $79.99, and the Arduino.cc official store doesn't even mention the Yun, even though Arduino.cc places it as its first board under the heading 'Internet of Things'.

So, I have two questions for the forum:

  • Is there any broader indication that availability of the Yun is decreasing or that it might be discontinued?
  • If so, what's the news on Arduino's follow-up to the Yun and/or an alternative WiFi/Linux board?

I reckon the price was already too high. If it is going even higher I find it hard to imagine anyone buying them.

An Arduino Micro, an RPi and an ESP8266 would probably be a better economic proposition.

@sscirrus,
Before answering those questions, it is good to know there is a fight between the founders of Arduino. It is currently in Massachusetts Supreme Court. You can likely find the Arduino Yun on the other website http://www.arduino.org/.

On #1, not at this point, but the alternatives are becoming better.

On #2, The Yun Mini and the Tuan are very nice.

On the split, here is one story. Arduino v. Arduino

Google: arduino vs. arduino

"important", but definitely not "good" :slight_smile:

While the dispute and split is clearly not good for anybody, especially the greater Arduino community, it's still good to know about it. :wink:

I would argue it is "useful to know about it" or "important to know about it" but there is nothing "good" about it.

I am just being deliberately pedantic :slight_smile: :slight_smile:
