YUN can be a standalone http server?

Hy All,

I'm new here, and sure this is a stupid question, but pls help me. I can't find exactly a description.
If i want to use a standalone server, and i want to communicate via http API, read/write IO, then
YUN is the board for me?
I only want to read for ex. a port, and get it back a simple echo.
(((2nd question is: if YUN is the right board for this, then anybody has any results about the max speed of requests/answers in ms?)))
