Hi, I'm an Arduino/microcontroller beginner. I bought a Yún board back in 2014, in order to make an internet-connected alarm clock (S.M.A.R.T. Alarm Clock - Make:), but never did that. Given the Yún board's "retired" status, would it be better for me to start any new, wifi-enabled project with newer hardware, and try to sell this board to someone who's more savvy, or needs a replacement for their old Yún?
It really depends on YOU ... interests, potential projects, etc. Many old timers still have an UNO on the bench.
If you rely on someone's else code for a project, buy what you must. If you write your own software, the Yun can still be useful.
Thanks @mrburnette, that makes complete sense. It depends on the level of tinkering & research I have the will & time to do. And, as far as I know, hooking this up to my network at home won't bring down the internet!
As long as your router is up-to-date with firmware and you do not open ports, you have little worry!
Thank you -- a great reminder to check my router's firmware for any updates! And, I will not open any ports.
