At university in the 70s, I did work on distributed systems, ported a couple of operating system kernels (awesome summer jobs are some of the perks of studying at a CS school), did coursework on embedded systems, etc. The stuff available these days is amazing. I'm enjoying getting back to embedded systems as a hobbyist.
