arduino pro mini and openlog power help..

I have the openlog SparkFun OpenLog - DEV-13712 - SparkFun Electronics connected to the arduino pro mini and it works perfectly when powered by the laptop through the FTDI basic. However, when I have them powered by 3.3V battery no data is logged in the openlog. Anyone know what the problem is?

Input Voltage 3.35 -12 V (3.3V model) or 5 - 12 V (5V model)

You didn't say which model you have, but a 3.3V battery does not seem to be enough when the minimum is 3,35V.

Its the 3.3V model. If I was to use up to 12V would I need to use a voltage regulator? Would I risk burning out the components?

You can supply up to 12 volts to the on-board voltage regulator. It will get warm at 12 volts. If you were to power the Arduino with 2 of your 3,3V batteries, that would be better.

So if I was to supply up to 12V to the raw on the arduino would that work? would using a lithium battery supply more current?

Yes.

Than what? A potato?

would a lithium battery supply more than a 3.3V battery?
