Before we put this thread to bed, I want to ask about the Schottky diode S1 in the 18650 shield V3 schematic found by TomGeorge. I understand why the 0.4Ω resistor is there, but the diode is a mystery to me. Why is it there? I ask because I want to add a load sharing circuit to this device to produce a true UPS for Arduino, ESP, etc., and could make use of that diode elsewhere if not needed where it is.

Why is it there?

To clamp spikes on the Vcc line ?
