2N2222 with Relay NOT WORKING

Hey

I really need some help....

I have a simple transistor set up for switching a relay coil with a separate 12V supply.

the coil current is a maximum of 60mA according tot he specifications.

but for the love of me I am unable to get the coil to switch on and off with the High and Low to the transistor base...

any thing I seem to be missing?

Many Thanks

Aaron

A schematic so others can see how it's hooked up?

Hey I just drew this up.... 5v source being the Arduino set to high...

please see attached

Maybe replace the relay with an LED/series resistor just to test?

Ground of Arduino, emitter, and 12V neg all hooked up?

Well, if that isn't doing it then - you don't have things hooked up that way or you have one or more bad components, or a combination of both.
Are all of our Grounds connected ("tied") together?

According to my supplier site that transistor comes in different packages: you sure you id'd the B, C and E correctly?

If it's the plastic TO92, they're all the same. There's a less common (nowadays) TO18 (would be pretty old.)
But, yes, it's all about getting all the wires right, not trivial.

Some transistors come in more than one TO92 pinout from different manufacturers, because they
are made as general purpose replacements for older devices....

Link to the various 2N2222 pin-outs.
