56bit or 256bit encryption?

Hello, my friend Jason has a question he really don’t know how to asked. His arduino project has a aes256 bit encryption chip on it. We are in the USA. We have a friend who is in Japan who we want to send it to. However my friend Jason said there is some kind of law stating if past 56bit encrypted needs a port license. I’m not sure myself because I never heard of this before.

I was wondering if anyone that has a project using a encryption chip would ver ran into a problem like
This before?

The encryption chip manufacturer would know if an export license is needed.

Hello xfpd, thank you for that. Now I’m wondering if my friend needs some type of export license key in order to send his devices overseas?

He is using the samd21 processor same as on the zero board. I will contact microchip to see if it is needed or not, Thank you.

Always follow all export and import laws. Just know, even after you follow all the steps, you could be in Customs for an extended period answering questions, and "right" depends on who is asking and what they want to hear. Trust no one, verify everything, and carry a legal amount of cash.

True, That is correct. I just want to gather all the information I can before I try to help my friend jason figure this out.

Use an import/export agency. Money well spent.

It could be better then trying to figure this out to be honest. LOL
