74LS193 acting wierd...

I have the 193 preset to 9 and the counter connected to the down counter. The clear is grounded and the up counter is connected to 5 volts. I want it to count from 9-0. So I should always have the load connected to 5 volts right? But when I do that, instead off going back to 9 it goes through the whole thing (1111 1110 1101 etc instead of 1001 1000 0111 0 110 101 100 etc)

any reasons why it is doing that?

Because its a 4-bit binary counter.

Use a 74LS192 that is a decade counter.

Forum rule - when any one says something is acting weird it is always acting perfectly normally.

Showed my teacher. He had no idea what was going on. Guess it isn't working perfectly normally :D.

Anyways thanks for the help.

I have the 193 preset to 9

So... You count down from 9, and that's OK?
But, when you keep counting down from zero (without re-initializing to 9) it "rolls over", you get F (1111), and it counts down from there?

...Sounds like normal 16-bit operation to me!

Sadly, teachers do not always know everything.

Yes it is working perfectly normally. It is you and your teacher that are acting wierd.
