8 digit 7 segment display countdown timer

Hey all,

I have made this countdown time, from a 8 digit 7-segment display:

it uses 8 74HC595 shift registers daisychained, but i am using the code from this instructies.

this part uses 2 74HC595 shift registers.

because the part is different the numbers come out different on the screen.

what makes it different?

In the first LED panel there are 8 separate
7 segment digits. The second LED Panel only has 2 screens with 2x4 digits.

Does that make a difference?

And how can i alter the code to make it work on the part i bought?
