A place to start

I was hoping someone could tell me of Arduino type projects that can be done without a computer using android phone. I have a substantial, but not extensive knowledge of electronics. I know a little bit about allot of things, and i want to expand in a direction that will make use of what I already know; communication electronics, SMPS. I also plan to get an amateur radio license. So if anyone has any suggestions on how to get started on a development platform and what kind of code i would have to learn in order to program it, i would really be grateful. I do have some IC's, transistors, diodes, capacitors, etc. I'm really only lacking the Arduino, and the coding language.... and a computer. Happy Holidays everyone, and thanks again.

You will need a PC to compile the program that will run on the Arduino

I was afraid you was going to say that. And then what we flash the memory to the Arduino essentially?

The compiler runs on the PC and creates a binary file that is copied to the Arduino which then runs it

There are compilers that run on Android devices and possibly IOS devices but I have no experience of them and don't know how fully featured they are. However good they are then editing and debugging a C++ program of any complexity on a 'phone will be a pain

Yes it certainly is a good place to start. I had already planned on the ARRL.org as I had just bought a uv5r for my father and of course one for myself. Arduino Droid sounds promising as well. Thanks very much for your timely response.

One of the things I've seen people struggle with on where to start is what to do. They want to build something, or make something, etc., but don't know what they want to do. The tutorial projects are great, but pick the ones that lead up to something you want to build. Have an end goal in mind to start with and this group can help you with the details along the way.

Please, study for the "with code" license. You will be happy for it (although "with code" is not necessary for a license).
