Android phone touch screen as an input

Hi, I broke the lcd that i was using with an arduio as a light switch for my bedroom :frowning: (with clock, alarm and weather).
The main problem that i had with it was the NON-dimmerble backlight.
I was thinking, instead of buying a new touch lcd, of using an "old" android phone as a touch screen for arduino.
I don't want to use the phone as an actual display controlled by the arduino, I just need to use it as a touch input.
I'm thinking of using this app from the play store (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=prowax.weathernightdock&hl=it ) for clock and weather.
What i would need is a "transparent" app that turns the entire screen into a "button" and gives an output (ideally wifi or bluetooth, but even usb is fine) to an arduino or an esp.
My problem is that i have zero experience on app developing and i have no clue on how to make something like that  .
Is it possible? I would really appreciate is someone can explain me how to do it or make one for me. Thanks.

P.S Sorry for my not-so-great english, but i'm only 14 and it's not my main language.

It may well be possible but your problem is entirely one of getting experience in app development. This is not an Arduino problem. The least of your problems is your English which, with not a single gonna or wanna to be found, suggests you have a better command of the language than the president of the United States.

I think you might be better off confining yourself to Arduino. I don't think it is hard to control the LCD backlight, indeed I bet it would be easier than trying to do it with Android. Further, I think Android would be rather under-employed in relation to the effort that you would have to put into it, and you could it use more sensibly, and more easily, for some other purpose.

Good luck with your effort. I wish i had all this stuff when I was 14.
