Another Pre-compiler can't find, or install custom library issue

just an fyi before I delete the folders..
I was going to uninstall the Arduino IDE here again, before deleting the folders but there's no registered app to delete.. This seems odd since a couple days ago there were TWO Arduino icons/ apps and I deleted them both one and for the RC2 and the other the 1.8.19 IDE

I don't know what to tell you. Sometimes people delete the folder instead of using the uninstaller. When that happens, the Arduino IDE 1.x (I don't know about 2.x) uninstaller can't run, which causes the installer to fail because it wants to uninstall the previous installation before installing.

But as long as you use the variant of the IDE you get from the "Windows ZIP file" download link, then there is no installer and you don't need to think about it at all.

Will do .. thanks again

I re-named the folders and downloaded the 1.8.19 .zip to my downloads folder then used this Unzip utility to create a new folder with the extraction but it's sitting in my downloads folder, and it did not create any new Arduino folders any where else but here.. what did I do wrong ? I haven't moved them or anything else.. Can you send me a link to a guide on how to properly install the .zip file?

You didn't do anything wrong. That's all there is to installing the "Windows ZIP file" variant of the IDE. You can put the unzipped folder anywhere you like.

Now just double click on the arduino.exe file in the unzipped folder and the IDE will start up with everything fresh and new.

Ok I will do that .. thanks for the reassurance..
by the way there seems to be a bug

currently on the website cause when I click on "Windows" install instructions I get this..

Ok, finally some success.. I did move the IDE unzipped folder here:

and I then used Add Zip to add each of the 4 .lib folders Egeloo distributes and for the 1st time each was added successfully and not only that it compiled their robot's V4 .ino without errors too.. !

But I have a final question.. How do I get Windows 10 to recognize the Arduino IDE as an installed application? The App manager doesn't see it and when i click on a .ino file it doesn't know that .ino files are supposed to be handled by the IDE app. Is there a way to fix that ? I used to be able to click on any sketch file and it would launch the IDE .. Thanks Again for the help ..

I deleted the Install folder ( this this was a problem requiring admin rights adjustment, and tho I'm the Admin not all files and folders deleted) and then found out if you select the .exe installer instead of the .zip version it does install and registers everything properly .. re-adding Elegoo libruary folders worked and I can still compile without errors so this issue is no resolved. Thanks again for In0 and Steve and all those helping me thru this fiasco.

If you simply unzip the folder to a location of your choice it is not actually installed. If you want it to be installed then download and run the installer version of the IDE

If you want to remove the ZIP version then you can delete the folder that you put in in and it is gone

Thanks for reporting that. Let's discuss it over on the dedicated topic:

Yes, I did this and then did try to delete that folder I had installed the extracted .zip files and folders in.. Most would deleted Ok, but many would not do so even after modifying the Properties/ Advanced Security settings to allow Full control. yet I am the only sys admin in this PC.. Why .. dunno.. not when I re-downoaded the .exe version instead I let it install in the default (x86) location and it did everything and set up the Windows registry just fine.

Can you please provide some examples of files that you extracted from the zip file that could not subsequently be deleted when the IDE was not running

Bob, At the time these are the 3 folders which I had trouble deleting.. but I just tried again and they all deleted just fine..
