..now I'm going to get a new L293D in few moments...will post the results after that.
I have replaced the L293D with a new one, then with another newer one, but all of them giving me the same results (just a little bit variance, can be ignored).
Supply is 12V, 500mA.
I could be wrong (if the motor and supply is not the culprit), so i have decided to sketch the whole setup with help of fritzing. Consider the AA batteries to be the power supply (12 Volts).
Following is the diagram, which exactly meets the the wiring of my project.
