Arduino Create Agent is only used for the things such as uploads, Device creation, Serial Monitor, that require communication with your Arduino boards over their serial or OTA port, so you are welcome to continue to use all the other features of Arduino Cloud that don't require Arduino Create Agent such as writing sketches, compiling sketches, configuring Thing sketches, configuring and viewing Arduino IoT Cloud dashboards, etc.
OK. I only started using the web editor and cloud because it seemed easiest to set up, at first. Now that I am six months into experience, and have maybe 10 sketches I want to keep, I should just maybe move permanently over to my computer and just abandon the cloud completely. And base all work off my hard drive.
If I work completely off the cloud, all PC based, is there any real functionality I lose? (I will obviously still use the website and info for learning Arduino and this blog etc). I now just basically code, edit, debug and upload to my Uno R3 via USB and engage in serial comms between my PC and Uno, using Serial mon, sometimes TeraTerm, and running some Processing comms code.
Before I do anything drastic, I will wait a few days to see if there is any news from your security people, and if I can get a new Agent that works with my AVG. If yes, I will wait and go that route and stay on the cloud and web edit. Thx for your help. Steven Lightfoot
Good idea. Done. Hopefully its an AVG false pos, they can confirm, they update their database and I get it auto, and then I can use Arduino agent as is. Thanks, Steven Lightfoot
OK thanks. I don't use those features, so I can switch. I would prefer to keep going as is, but if the AVG problem persists, I can't proceed. I will wait to hear from your security team, if they reply, and also I sent a message to AVG to see if its a false pos, I suppose its not impossible they might even contact Arduino to inquire. As you determined, the problem is not unique to me, so it may affect a wider group, so presumably it will have some level of priority to get resolved.
Anyway, if there is no longer a web editor cloud path forward, in some days, I will switch.
Hi @steven_lightfoot. I believe the security team has already contacted AVG about the detection but I haven't heard anything else other than that. I'll be sure to post an update here if I receive any news.
Ok excellent, I will just wait. My preference is to continue using the web editor ( I will only switch if I really have to). I read a review of the three IDE options (web, 1.8 and 2.0), and I prefer the web editor for its flexibility and portability and also its simplicity.
The irony here is I happen to have a week off work, so plenty of time to noodle around on my coding, and now I'm stuck. Oh well, c'est la vie, what can you do? I'll just wait for any updates. Very much appreciate your help. Cheers. Steven Lightfoot
I have good news: the result of the investigation is that the detection was a false positive. The detection should no longer occur after the next AVG virus database update.
It takes some time for that AVG virus database update to propagate to all users but I find that on my virtual machine that has AVG installed (where I was previously able to reproduce the detection), I am able to install and use Arduino Create Agent without any problems. So go ahead and try installing Arduino Create Agent again now @steven_lightfoot.
