Is this a new install? If not, what changed? Which version of Windows? Is it 64-bit Windows or 32-bit Windows?

To my knowledge, IDE 2.2.1 does not work with Windows 7, it requires Windows 10 or higher.

Ah, found it

" Windows - Win 10 and newer, 64 bits"
Yes, I read that too.
Can't you make it work for w7 as well? like a [special] version
...still v2.x but who runs on trusted OS ?
Thank you !

Hi @q12. The last version of Arduino IDE with incidental compatibility with Windows 7 is 2.1.1. I provide instructions for installing and configuring that version of the IDE here:

It worked !
I downloaded the *.zip file which represents the portable version of the software and is my preferred method of running it.
I folowed all your instructions about disabling the auto-update function, including the Ctrl+Shift+P hidden command and all the settings and it worked right of the first time.
Thank you.

A small Website_UI thing... that arrow, I miss it completely and for awhile I could not understand why your explanation is terminating so abruptly. After getting back a few times to your answer, I managed to finally see, but very hard, that tiny-little-unobvious-little sht arrow that expanded a very well made explanation and formulation. Good for you, and is a pitty people will not see it if is obscured like that ! Come On, you can do better on the UI. Great job on the explanations !

You are welcome. I'm glad it is working now.

Regards, Per

As a final note: - keep in mind, to make the future Arduino versions compatible with w7 TRUSTED OS (Operating System) !!!!!! Not old, not vintage, but trusted and robust !
There are some of us that are not yet comfortable with the current progress of things and I very much like the stuff that worked... so for this reason, keep posting a "downgraded" NEW versionS of the Arduino program viable as well. Only for Windows users ! Haha.
Cu tot respectul, -q12- !

Your "trusted" operating system hasn't received any security updates for the last four years.

You guys are not mere mortals, but gods! Thank you so much to this, and the GitHub community at large, for all your effort and time providing fixes like this. Just know how much it means to people like me, who are in a situation where an unsupported OS is the only option and have no other choice, it means the world, you all provide us with the means to continue on. <3

PS - FOR FREE... people need to recognize this more, and remember this
