Question about the MEGA and UNO:

Is it possible to power up the MEGA or UNO with a battery, via the Vin pin AND plug the USB cord from the MEGA into the computer so I can read serially? So I want to read data in over the USB cable onto the serial prompt while the MEGA is powered up via the Vin pin 7.5 volts approxmately.

Yes, you may plug in a arduino mega or uno to USB while also being powered by external connector (or Vin pin). If both external and usb power is avalible the board uses the external power.
