arduino micro as ISP

Trying to use on micro to update the bootloader on another micro

(running Windows 10)

  1. used examples/arduinoISP after changing SS to 10 ...uploaded to micro A (programmer)
  2. connected micro B (destination) as follows.

connections:

programer <-> destination
5V <-> 5V
GND <-> GND
SCK <-> SCK
MISO <-> MISO
MOSI <-> MOSI
10 <-> RESET

  1. set ARDUINO 1.6.7 to verbose on upload

  2. set ARDUINO 1.6.7 to Programmer "Arduino as ISP"

  3. set ARDUINO 1.6.7 to Board "Arduino/Genuino Micro"

  4. set ARDUINO 1.6.7 to com 3 (port of the programmer micro)

  5. clicked Burn Bootloader

I don't know if it is relevant to your situation because I don't have a Windows computer right now. PeterVH explains in this thread that Windows users need to edit the programmer.txt to change the protocol from stk500v1 to arduino:
