Hi, I'm stuck flashing an ATmega162, arduino+avrdude..I keep getting Device signature = 0x000000 and the whole thing stops..
Maybe the fuse bits are written wrong..How can I fix it?
Thank you.
Are the other bytes in response also 0x00? In this case there is no answer from the target MCU an it means something of these: no power, no clock, bad reset, no connection to the programmer.
Howewer, you should post the log and schematics or photo of your setup. I suppose this is baremetal ATmega162.
I've moved your topic to a more suitable category of the forum as it does not sound like an IDE 2.x problem.
Can you provide some more details.
- Was the same IC used before.
- A good drawing of your connections.
- The procedure that you followed.
Are you programming a bare-bone ATmega162 using "Arduino as ISP" Programmer? Do you know the Device Signature for this MCU?
Yes..
here is the result:
c:\avrdude8_1>avrdude -c arduino -p m162 -P COM3 -v
Avrdude version 8.1

- - double check chip or use -F to carry on regardless*
Show me the connection between Arduino UNOR3 and ATmega162. Are you using fresh ATmega162 MCU -- I mean it is not an used one?
This signature is from your "programmer" Uno board rather than the target arduino162.
Please explain in detail your uploading with Arduino as Isp procedure.
Your answer is inconsistent.
- Post the output as text in code tag. There is a button in reply window. It will help you keep communication neat and clear.
- Schematics or photo of your setup.
- Options chosen in IDE menu, settings etc.
Read carefully the answers you have obtained and focus, otherwise this topic will be very long.
This -c arduino option can't be, it sends the programmer (Arduino) immediately into reset.
I suspect that the OP may be posting spam, as they are not responding to one-to-one questions. If they had answered the questions raised in post #6, we would likely be very close to a solution.
it is an used, programed avr
no no..please ...
Are you using Arduino UNO R3 as ISP Programmer to program ATmega162? Do you have Arduino UNO R3 Board or an AVR Programmer?
this is similar topic:
yes and I use the scetch from exemples arduino ISP..
Can you post the connection diagram that you have done between UNO and ATmega162? This is to make a review.
OK, first of all the power on the ATmega162 is pin #40 VCC, #20 GND.
I do not see VCC connected. LED between chip GND and Arduino GND? How come it is ON?
Why LED?
EDIT: 5V on #10, GND on #11? LED should be used with a resistor in series, unless it has built in resistor. Does it have?
I am commenting upper photo. This is your setup right?
There is a charge..tahe arduino's conectiona is in first picture, but the target is the second picture and I have conection to 6 pins in order described..
Now I am confused. Isn't the bottom picture taken from the link you posted above?
Why don't you post exact picture of your setup?
Then how do you think we can help you?
Same here, and yes it appears to be including the same botched in regulator.
Exactly. OP, emphasis on that you have done. We need to see YOUR setup and not (an incorrect version of) someone else's. If you are following the wiring in that top photo, then its not going to work.
Having read this thread, I am also beginning to wonder...
If the target is indeed exactly the same as the second picture with the haphazardly "mounted" regulator, then I don't see an ATMega162 chip on there? Don't know what it is because we can't properly see the markings, but, comparing with the datasheet, U1 has the wrong pin count for an ATMega162.
Since both the ATmega328P and ATmega162 are AVR chips, the terminology is somewhat confusing here. Are you referring to the programmer or target board/IC?
Even though they may be similar, it sounds like they are not the same. It would very much help if you could please show us both YOUR programmer board and YOUR target board and how they are connected together.
