Auto transformer on Full Bridge Rectifier

I want to have a 250V DC output from 220V AC. I want to make my project to be be smaller footprint. Is it advisable to use autotransformer? The size of autotransformer is 3KVA.

Where do you have 220V AC? Mains in Europe is 230 V ± 23 V AC.

The AC value is effective (RMS), with a peak value of RMS*sqrt(2), about 1.4 the RMS value. The output voltage of a 220V bridge rectifier will pulse from 0V up to 310V DC.

What's the intended load on the DC output? A 3kVA motor?

An auto transformer, otherwise know as a variack is not isolating so if you rectify the output then the resulting DC would not be isolated from the mains.

This would be dangerous.

What has this got to do with an Arduino?
