I heard there was this website and desktop application that basically allows one to import video, pictures, and music, and then it spit out a MTV-esque video.
Anyone know what's the name of these software (and any open source alternatives)?

Its basically a browser based internet video broadcasting app.
I've done this in the past with streamcast and broadcated a playlist of videos over the internet. I remember I wrote a little script to search for videos and add them to the queue. Gosh that was a long time ago though, early 2003 if I remember right.
Can you give us more details about ur application? Justin.tv is another website that might suit your needs. It allows you to upload videos and create playlists. Then people can logon to your channel and watch whats playing. You can also broadcast live videos with it.
