barcode display

Hi all
im looking for a screen to display barcodes from numbers.
there's a lot of screens so im lost !
I dont want to display numbers from barcodes but the vertical lines which could be scanned through a scanner.

Thanks for your precious help

Jerome

There are many styles of barcode. Did you mean UPC-A? Universal Product Code - Wikipedia That would be 95 pixels so a graphic LCD with a width of 95 or more should work.

Hi john
thanks for your quick reply.
I think UPC-A is the most used barcode so thats what i want.
thanks again john.

So you have numbers in a digital format, which you want to display as analog (the barcode) and scan back in to be digital?

128x64 is a common Graphic LCD size and that would be plenty of resolution for a UPC-A barcode. Something like http://compare.ebay.com/like/251260949920 for $6.09 on eBay.

Since each barcode 'digit' is 7 pixels wide you would have plenty of resolution to display the digits under the bars if you want both.

What about an e-ink display?

Ok.Jimbo youre right.in fact i would like 2 screens.the first to display the barcode number and when you validate it, it will show the digital barcode on the second screen.
So i think i need simple number display screen and a digital barcode screen.
Telecomando yes i want the displayed barcode to be scanned so do you think it will be difficult to find
?
Thanks again
Jerome

I Just red your last post and asking 2 questions.
Awol do you mean e ink like kindle fire or else ?
Jhon your ebay link is what i want and may be one screen is enough
To show numbers and the barcode under it !!!
You are my saver ...

But I'm wondering why you have to display as a barcode, a number which you have digitally in the first place, just to scan it in again as a new digital number.

Unless I'm missing something, why don't you just pass the number from the digital source to the digital user?

Caus i want the barcode to be red by a scanner.
So it has to be digital code not numbers.
Its for handicaped persons.
I want them to enter a number and then it loads the graphical code which we will be scanned by others.sorry for my bad english.

i understand what you mean Telecommando.thank you.
May be e-ink is the solution but its a new technology so it's more expensive than lcd and elses...
If i find a solution i ll tell you.
But i think you're right whan you say scanners are better now.
wait and see...

I really want to help these people and find a solution for them.

While not as cheap as a typical LCD you can use an e-paper display, Adafruit sells a few graphic eInk dev boards for roughly $35 USD which are advertised as being able to produce a barcode readable by a laser scanner.

You could always also use a thermal printer to physically produce the barcode, they cost about $40-50 new, but you might be able to find one for a lot less (salvage/auction).

Why does the information need to be scanned?
Why not just show the information so that a human can read it?
If a machine is supposed to read the information, what is the purpose of the scanner? Why not just connect directly to the machine?
In other words: does the information really need to be scanned? Or is there a way to do without the use of a scanner?

If you don't mind me asking:
What kind of information is this, exactly?
Do different numbers stand for different items, in a code? (for example, different meals on a restaurant's menu)
Or do the numbers stand for numbers themselves? (for example, an amount of money, or a calendar date)

In the UK Barnes & Noble have reduced the price of there 'NOOK Simple Touch eReader' to £29 ($45). I hopefully have one on the way and will then face the dilemma of using it as a book or hacking it to see if I can use the e-ink display.

Hi

Why does the information need to be scanned?

the barcode has to be red by different scanners thats why i need the barcode and not numbers

I feel a little bit lost :frowning:

John if i get this seedstudio eink display will this be enough or i need something else to save the datas and display them ?
Is it possible to add buttons (up, down, menu) on the card so it will be easier to scroll. ?
Thanks from paris. 8)

Looks like digital pins 2, 3, 7, 8, and 9 as well as all the analog inputs are free to use for things like buttons.

I know I'm 6 years late for this discussion, but for the past 6 years, has anyone innovated something like this? Bluetooth kitchen scales are hard to come by here in the Philippines. So what I needed to do is use simple digital kitchen scales, and then whatever the display says, it will display as a barcode in grams in a small screen. I will then scan that barcode so that displsyed weight is enterred.
