The 168A is a 168; so the signature should be 0x1e9406. What you more than likely have is a 168P that was relabelled by some crappy manufacturer to meet their needs (sales).

Which is why Minicore has two different 168 variants to choose from, to support both signature bytes.

(The PB is a enhanced processor with two extra 16-bit timers, a second UART, etc.)
