Hi There
I am storing 3 videos of 5 second duration each from a webcam using the basic camera recording stream example in the app lab.
But even after setting the fps at 10 (in the code and from the terminal as well), the video capture is always around 5fps.
I verify by recording a running stopwatch screen of my phone -- like for a 5 second video, 7-10 seconds have elapsed.
I tried using a brand new webcam too, but still the code records the same.
Also, for a 720p resolution, the board defaults to 10fps even if trying to set 30fps. Why this limitation?
Is this some known issue? @ptillisch
The stopwatch comparison suggests a mismatch between capture time and playback time, but it doesn’t yet identify where frames are being lost or retimed. Could you share the exact example code, App Lab version, webcam model, pixel format, and the saved file’s frame count and duration? First record one clip rather than three, and measure elapsed wall-clock time alongside the number of frames actually received by the application. Then compare those numbers with the saved video. For the 720p question, check the camera’s supported frame intervals for the specific pixel format and resolution; a requested 30 fps is not necessarily supported by that combination. If possible, repeat a capture-only test without encoding or writing the video. That should help separate camera negotiation from processing or storage delays.
Hi Thanks for your reply.
Frames -
I actually saved frames (by copying the camera.record() function) as well and see that only after ~5 frames, a second increments in the stopwatch images.
Code -
Further, the exact sample code is under the basic camera example "record-camera-stream", which records an .avi video. camera.record_avi(duration). It takes a duration as input to record the video and using the fps, it calculates the total frames to be captured
Camera -
I was initially using a very old iBall K20 webcam, then purchased a brand new Logitech 720p webcam. But it seems the problem is not with the camera.
Video Clip-
I tried with one clip too, still the same result. Duration provided is 5 seconds.
I checked the camera's supported fps for 720p resolution, it does support 30fps for it (and mostly for all other resolutions).
-- I didn't understand this, like without writing the video, how shall I be able to test the problem?
