I seek suggestions as to the best wireless technology to use for the following:
Arduino to Arduino communication.
I am a Newby to wireless.
One Arduino near front of home,
Second in my vehicle, up to 60 or more feet distant.
One way transmission ok.
The new Uno R4-WiFi caught my attention, but it requires/allows a third entity (server/browser'etc.).
What is the application? Though you may only need to get a message from the car to house or vice-versa, if that was for example an alarm it would be better if it had a 2-way system with an acknowledgement.
WiFi range is a bit iffy and unless you need very high data speed is probably not the best choice.
Assuming that the application is low bandwidth (e.g. alarm) then LoRa would be a good choice.
Ummm... what distance does not meet that criteria?
A board with built-in wireless would certainly make things easier for a beginner. I would consider using Wemos D1 Mini. Possibly the Pro version in case I need to attach external antenna to increase the range.
No, one of the boards can act as Access Point and Server.
Thanks to all for your responses. jhaine, When I back my vehicle into it's usual parking space, all is usually well. I can see a marker-rock in my rear view mirror. But certain times in the year, I must back into sunlight when sun is low on the horizon. I have already knocked my mailbox off its base once when blinded by sunlight. $$$ I am thinking of an arduino based unit in the vehicle (mobile) which sends a signal to a home-based station to turn on a bright guide light in the otherwise dark shadow. Seeing the guide light turn on would be my signal that my mobile's signal was received.
Good observation on my 60 feet or more. That includes light years and mega light years. I was thinking 60 or 70 feet max distance. One might also ask why I don't reverse my vehicle parking direction -- the ultimate low cost solution. Truth is, there are at least two neighbors who leave their homes at such a speed that I would rather see them in front of me!
My VW Golf has ultrasonic parking assist with a display showing what's behind and linked to the brakes. I think similar aftermarket systems are available? Or just add a PIR switch to your light?
