Hello,
I want to connect things to a 12V 8.5A power supply. What cable is best used for this application?
you also need to know what loss you are ready to sustain at the end of the cable and how long is that cable going to be
found an on line calculator for solar systems that probably would give you a good hint
https://www.solar-wind.co.uk/info/dc-cable-wire-sizing-tool-low-voltage-drop-calculator
or may be
You also need to know how much current the load will take.
This is the important part. The power supply name plate data means very little as long as it is capable of supporting the load. You base the wire gauge and length on the load current. The cable used will have some loss so you figure in the cable length (round trip) resistance. The calculators mentioned should do all the work for you.
