Hey guys I'm doing a project with the Artme3D filament extruder and I'm looking to create a closed loop system that changes the extruder rpm depending on the filament diameter. If the diameter is too large (aim is 1.75mm) then the extruder auger rpm increases. If the diameter is too small the extruder auger rpm decreases.
I want to enter the diameter dimension manually at this point.
If anyone can help that would be great even if there was a mock up of a simpler system using a potentiometer or something similar
What type of sensor are you using to measure the diameter?
Presumably the plastic is still soft so any kind of contact gauge that uses spring pressure will give a false low reading.
I was going to use the infidel diameter sensor but haven't yet sorted that. I'm just going to be measuring using digital calipers. The measurement is taken place where the filament has been cooled so won't be soft
Are you interested in the knob-motor interaction? Or in modeling your system with a PID?
There are a couple good motor mock-ups here:
I have a few closed-loop sims that use PID and feedback but it is hard to tune a plant to match the PID library examples.
Maybe this would help:
