Asunto: Compromiso con el Ecosistema Abierto de Arduino tras la Adquisición por Qualcomm

Estimados señores y señoras,
Escribo en nombre de la comunidad maker y, específicamente, como emprendedor de ECOTECH, una empresa que fundamenta sus proyectos de robótica e innovación en la plataforma Arduino. Nuestro trabajo (incluyendo el desarrollo de nuestro robot actual) depende directamente de la accesibilidad, la transparencia y el soporte continuo que esta plataforma ha ofrecido históricamente.
La reciente adquisición de Arduino por parte de Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. representa una emocionante oportunidad para impulsar la innovación, especialmente en el campo de la Inteligencia Artificial (Edge AI) y el Internet de las Cosas (IoT). Sin embargo, esta noticia ha generado preocupación en la comunidad sobre el futuro del ecosistema que nos ha permitido prosperar.
Con el máximo respeto a esta nueva alianza, solicitamos y confiamos en las siguientes garantías, que consideramos vitales para la supervivencia del movimiento maker global:
- Soporte Inquebrantable para el IDE y el Lenguaje Clásico:
- Rogamos que no se elimine ni se degrade el IDE de Arduino ni el lenguaje de programación basado en C/C++ que es fundamental para las tarjetas clásicas (UNO, Nano, Mega, etc.). Este lenguaje y entorno son la piedra angular de la enseñanza de electrónica a nivel mundial.
- La nueva suite App Lab y las innovaciones centradas en Linux/Python son bienvenidas y necesarias para el futuro, pero deben coexistir con el soporte C/C++ tradicional.
- Continuidad Total del Hardware Existente:
- Es crucial que no se eliminen ni se descontinúen las versiones anteriores de las tarjetas, especialmente las basadas en microcontroladores AVR (como el Arduino UNO y Nano). Su bajo coste y robustez las hacen irremplazables en la educación y en el prototipado rápido.
- La destrucción o abandono de estas placas sería una catástrofe para las innumerables startups, laboratorios y proyectos educativos que las utilizan como base.
- Compromiso con el Código Abierto (Open Source/Hardware):
- El éxito de Arduino reside en su filosofía de Hardware y Software Libre. Reiteramos nuestro pedido de que todos los esquemas de hardware y el código fuente sigan siendo completamente abiertos y accesibles.
- Cualquier indicio de un ecosistema cerrado o propietario socavaría la confianza de la comunidad maker y dañaría la misión de democratizar la electrónica que ambas corporaciones han prometido mantener.
Estamos entusiasmados con las mejoras que la potencia de Qualcomm, materializada en productos como el UNO Q, puede traer a la plataforma. Vemos en esta unión una oportunidad para una nueva era, siempre y cuando se preserve el espíritu de accesibilidad, simplicidad y apertura que definió a Arduino desde su fundación.

I am writing on behalf of the maker community and, specifically, as an entrepreneur at ECOTECH, a company that grounds its robotics and innovation projects in the Arduino platform. Our work (including the development of our current robot) is directly dependent on the accessibility, transparency, and continuous support that this platform has historically provided.
The recent acquisition of Arduino by Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. represents an exciting opportunity to drive innovation, especially in the field of Edge Artificial Intelligence (Edge AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT). However, this news has generated concern within the community regarding the future of the ecosystem that has allowed us to thrive.
With the utmost respect for this new alliance, we request and rely on the following guarantees, which we consider vital for the survival of the global maker movement:
- Unwavering Support for the IDE and the Classic Language:

We urge that the Arduino IDE and the C/C++ based programming language fundamental to the classic boards (UNO, Nano, Mega, etc.) not be eliminated or degraded. This language and environment are the cornerstone of electronics education worldwide.

The new App Lab suite and the Linux/Python-centric innovations are welcome and necessary for the future, but they must coexist with the traditional C/C++ support.
- Full Continuity of Existing Hardware:

It is crucial that previous versions of the boards, especially those based on AVR microcontrollers (such as the Arduino UNO and Nano), are neither eliminated nor discontinued. Their low cost and robustness make them irreplaceable in education and rapid prototyping.

The destruction or abandonment of these boards would be catastrophic for the countless startups, laboratories, and educational projects that rely on them.
- Commitment to Open Source/Hardware:

Arduino's success lies in its philosophy of Free Hardware and Software. We reiterate our request that all hardware schematics and source code remain completely open and accessible.
