Differences (pros,cons) between different mcu's

I am writing a book on Arduino and its family and would like to include a list of differences between, say, the 328 and PICAXE or any other PICMicros. Could anyone guide me as to where I can get such information?

Dr.Andrew ::slight_smile:

Maybe this one http://www.arduino.cc/en/Main/Hardware as a starting point?

Thank you for your prompt answers. I am proud to be part of this wonderful forum.

am writing a book on Arduino

Could you give us a glimpse of the book e.g. of the table of contents, when it is to be expected (Xmas gift?)

Could anyone guide me as to where I can get such information?

Dr. Andrew's never heard of google? Hard to believe...

Just what part of writing this book are you doing?

Dr. Andrew's never heard of google? Hard to believe...

I'm not sure I could trust a book written by an author who wants to compare microcontrollers, but doesn't think "hmm, maybe I should consult with the manufacturers?"...

How basic can you get?

:-?

Thank you for the snutty remarks. For your information, I was one of the first authors years ago to have written a book on microprocessors, followed by another seven books. So, please, save your sarcasm for someone else. I know very well how to contact the manufacturers. The intent of my request was to hear from the hobbyist about pros and cons of various microcontrollers. Thank you anyway for having taken the time to send me something. Please, stay out of the sun; Arizona is a hot place.

I don't know if I have confused the already confused. My book will be for the novice, who has heard about microcontrollers, buys an Arduino, has no idea of programming, and has no idea as to hook up things. That is all, and that is how basic you can get. In fact, if anyone has the time, I would be happy to email him the first four chapters for review. I would appreciate any comments but, please, keep wise cracks for someone else.

pros atmel chips have a gcc compiler available on darn near every OS ever made

cons most others do not

I don't know much about comparing AVR's to any other PIC micro but thats because AVR's are not PIC's do you like ford or doge? what if doge required you to use restricted roads only in certain states, and taxed you heavily if you wanted to drive more than 2 miles from your home? yay ford!

Thank yu very much for your reply.

Wow, If your book is successful things will get very quite around here. Except for the occasional student that wants us to write his program/assignment for him.

The reason I chose this forum is that the forum has members with so much knowledge, more knowledge than I ever will have. Things will not be that quiet because there will always be a technical question that a forum member or two only will be able to answer. As for students who want to be spoon fed, having been a prof for over twenty years, I have met them all.

Thank you for your reply.
