Display to use in the cold?

I all making a portable radio receiver to test my radio nodes. Where I live this time of year it is cold and I am finding that LCD screens are prone to freezing and not working unless I make provisions to heat the screen.

Any thoughts on other options of screens that will work in the cold down to -40 or so would be nice.

Ability to display text display with 10+ characters at a time is a must. 20 characters or two lines of 10+ would be ideal.

In warm weather a 2 by 16 lcd works just fine.

Thanks,
Brandan

fluorescent displays, it has been a long time since I have seen one of those. I do not have much experience with them to know that they would work in the cold. I will have to see about hunting up one of them. Thanks for the lead.
