Elegoo programming for DHT11 temperature/humidity sensor issues

I have spent a while searching around for this issue. It seems like many people are having the same issue but I am no closer to understanding what is happening. This is my first real attempt at programming an Arduino in any capacity.

I have an Elegoo kit and I have been using the browser program from Arduino to code.

I was having issues with a code I found, so I imported the libraries I needed from the disc included with the Elegoo, and even tried to run the examples they included. Which naively I would assume they would work but to no avail. But as I write this I found an interesting issue...

I have one file in my sketchbook that I am trying to compile and the code is copied right from the example, but is on a separate tab from the code I am trying to write independently.

The other is in its own sketchbook and will compile perfectly.

This leads me to think there is something I don't understand about how the tabs work in this program? I'm not sure. I included the images of the two tabs in case what I am saying is odd...

I do have other questions but lets clear that up first.

Thank you

All the code on all the tabs is combined into one file when it is actually compiled. The tabs are just an easy way to keep large pieces of code organized into logical chunks.

I agree with you.

When you encounter an error you'll see a button at the top right corner of the black console window that looks like two pieces of paper. Click that button. Paste the error in a message here USING CODE TAGS (</> button on the forum toolbar). If the text exceeds the forum's 9000 character limit, save it to a text file and post it as an attachment. If you click the "Reply" button here, you will see an "Attachments and other settings" link.
