ESP8266 Visual Studio Timeout by upload

Hello,

i try to upload my sketch to the D1 Mini from there

i use win10, Visual Studio Code

esptool.py v3.0
Serial port COM7
Connecting........_____....._____....._____....._____....._____....._____....._____

A fatal error occurred: Failed to connect to ESP8266: Timed out waiting for packet header
*** [upload] Error 2

i try some other ESP8266 - Boards in Visual Studio but get same same error

Does it need the CH340 driver ? ( seems mentioned in a few google hits ..)
