Excessive Power draw

Just pulled an Opta out of the box. I hooked the DC power to a 24V power supply that was rated for 2.2 Amps. It immediately was drawing 5.2 Amps with nothing connected. I thought I might have a bad power supply so I hooked it up to my bench power supply at at 15.6VDC it would pull over an amp and pull the supply down to 1 Volt.

I disconnected the DC power and just plugged it into the USB-C and tried to connect to it and I can get the board info, (BN: Arduino Opta VID: 0x2341 PID: 0x0364 SN: 004E.... etc) I tried uploading the example blink program to it but it failed, not sure if it can work with the Opta. But it did change the lights from blinking back and forth between status 1 through 4 to blinking the reset button until I hit the reset and it went back to the status lights.

Is there something wrong with my Opta? Can you recommend a check to verify? Is there an example simple program to control the staus lights so I can check function?

I'm connecting using Auduino IDE 2.3.10.

Thanks,

-Kirby

Oh, and here are the errors I get in the Arduino IDE:

Global variables use 3104 bytes (1%) of dynamic memory, leaving 259040 bytes for local variables. Maximum is 262144 bytes.

Hi @kwilkerson.

If the Opta exhibits the high current draw behavior you report even when nothing at all is connected to it, then I do think this indicates you have a defective unit.

Please contact the seller you purchased the Opta from.

If you purchased directly from the Arduino company via the Arduino Store or the official Arduino seller account on Amazon, then you can contact customer service via this form:
