Flashing Arduino UNO with OpenBuilds Control firmware

I’m Building a 3 axis CNC plasma cutter table based of the JD’s Garage design however when I try to flash the Arduino with the firmware profile provided by OpenBuilds the port closes (See below)

Any help here will be greatly appreciated

Hi @moshi1.

I'm not familiar with OpenBuilds, but are you sure this is a problem? I would expect that the sequence would go something like this:

  1. Open port.
  2. Flash firmware.
  3. Close port.

So the "Port closed" message seems to me to simply be the final step in a successful firmware update.

Are you observing anything that makes you think the firmware was not successfully flashed?

Welcome. In order to improve your chances of getting help, you should try and provide links to items you are referring to.

For example, what is "JD's garage design"? Is there a website detailing this? Is it supposed to work on/with an Arduino UNO or one of the other boards in the Arduino offerings?

The more details you can provide, the more chance of one of the forum members with CNC knowledge will be able to help you.

As just mentioned above, is the port closed message the final stage in a correct sequence of events?

I hadn’t considered that, the reason I think its an issue is that all of the tutorials I’ve followed show a “Flash Complete” following the process i.e.

I haven’t tried to test the system yet though

In their build they used an Arduino UNO so despite a few years having passed id assume it would still be compatible with the OpenBuilds firm ware.

There is a website, but plans need to be purchased: https://jdsgarage.bigcartel.com/

I think the main issue here is that I have zero idea what I’m doing lol, this is literally my first Arduino project

Is it the XL CNC Plasma table that appears at the top of the web page?

If it is, then the description says:

Open source firmware and software will need to be loaded onto the ESP32 to complete the electrical function of the machine.

The GEN 2.0 machine also appears to have the same requirement.

Perhaps their build has moved on and an UNO is no longer supported?

You were right, it just wasnt giving the confirmation i was expecting - thank you for your time!

You are welcome. I'm glad if I was able to be of assistance.

Regards, Per

Hi, I bought the plans from garage a year ago worked fine with fusion 360 but they updated could not find out how to update my grble setting even with there help and now openbuils have updated there version and from what I can see they don't support arduino uno no more only the esp32 so it looks like I've got to now buy the gen2 just to wire up the new esp32 controller that's replaced the uno I'm just waiting to hear back from then right now , hop that helps if I find out any more ill keep you posted
