Good strain gauges for monitoring metal pipes

Good afternoon,

I am quite new here,

I need a strain gauge to monitor the strain in a hollow metal pipe, after some research I found out this could be done using an Arduino and a strain gauge, now the problem is what strain gauges to go for, maybe someone used some strain gauges and was happy with the results obtained.

Any information would be appreciated,

Thanks in advance

For professional results, I've long relied on certified measurement devices from Omega.

+1 for Omega. Used many or their products in my work.

And Omega publishes some nice reference material for many technologies. Here is one for strain gages that may be of interest.

One used be able to get the (paper) reference books for free. Don't know if you still can.

This may help to answer that question.

Thank you very much for your advice, con you please guide me on how to connect the sensors to the Arduino? And what about the code?

Thanks

The Omega site has information on reading strain gauge output. You will need a strain gauge amplifier. Google "arduino HX711" for tutorials.

Thank you very much, another problem is how to connect the strain gauge (wiring or any other components required) to the Arduino and the coding

The Omega technical reference and the Micro Measurements tech notes have a lot of good info on application and measurements with strain gages.

Why don't you (the OP) give us the big picture. Exactly what is the purpose of the project? Maybe there's an easier way to skin this cat.

Did you look at the HX711 tutorials mentioned in reply #7?
