I'm confused as to what you are trying to do.
You are using code designed to work with a LASER distance module but you have a module that detects vibrating strings. Two totally different things.
Why do you think that it would work?
Is everything connected according to 7.6 Application Circuit for TTL interface?
Which Arduino are you using?
