Very new user here. Per instructions on Getting Started, I selected the R4 WiFi board -- and loaded the R4 WiFi library -- in the IDE. Plugged the board into my Windows PC. Tried accessing File -> Examples -> Arduino UNO R4 Examples, but that entry is grayed out and no selections appear. How can I access the example sketches for this board?

What exactly do you mean by this ? Do you mean that you installed the board file for the Uno R4 ?
Thank you. I Installed the UNO R4 WiFi package with the Boards Manager.
Try restarting the IDE.

This is expected. The "Examples for Arduino Uno R4 WiFi" is only the menu section heading. The Uno R4 WiFi-specific examples are the menu items that come after it:
