What did you change? Did Windows shove an update down your throat? Did you change wiring or add stuff?
There are hundreds of different boards based on the ESP8266. Please be accurate in the board that you have (post a link if possible) and the board that you have selected in the IDE (there is no entry simply called ESP8266).
From reports I have seen, there appear to be a myriad of possible causes to this issue. So it's not just a "one problem with one solution" situation.
More information is needed from you before anyone will be able to even hazard a guess as to what might be going on. Starting with, as @sterretje has already requested, which board you have and which board is selected in the IDE. Exactly which board in both cases; there are dozens of board types available in the ESP8266 core and countless ESP8266 boards manufactured by numerous companies.
We all look forward to your anticipated cooperation in providing the necessary details.
