Horizontal or Vertical Auger?

Howdy y'all, I have a quick question that I want input on. Basically for a project i'm am constructing an automatic cat feeder(peep at my cat as my profile~) I was wondering If I should design my machine with a vertical or horizontal auger screw. I am leaning towards horizontal, as i heard the yare easier to mange. What would yall suggest? Thanks in advance :grinning:

Show some drawings of your designs, including the container of cat food with the auger. Have you decided how you will power the auger and it-'s size and length?

The auger on my commercial cat feeder is at an angle of around 45 degrees. Works well.

Hmm, Interesting, do you happen to know how they suspended it in the machine? i'm curious to learn!

Probably permanently attached to the housing. Most augers will have an input port and an output port. Bearing for the auger on the ends of the tube.

The auger rotates freely in a fairly close fitting plastic tube, open at the top and bottom.

With a spider type frame at each end to suspend the rotating axis and still let product flow from one end to the other.
Some use a cylinder and have cutouts in the side at each end, like in a grain auger.

I imagine that constructing an auger lift could be a difficult DIY project.

Another cat feeder I had used a simple belt (looped over rollers at each end), with steps every ~2 cm, also on a 45 degree angle. That worked well too, and would be easier for DIY, if you can find a belt like that.
