That window can't be closed? The IDE I use allows me to close the console/output window whilebediting.
I would not call that distracting. I had to play the video several times even to see it. I used to see that at the bottom in very small type, but I haven't noticed it for a while. I just went and hit Verify on a simple UNO blink sketch, and if I look down to the left, I do see a brief spinning symbol, but I never notice it when I am working.
Not sure what is going on with you, but I think you are more sensitive to that than most. I am being totally honest when I tell you I never noticed it, and even when you told us, it took a few seconds to find it. Even if it were in my line of sight, which it isn't, it would not bother me.
if it can be hidden I can't figure out how, I can hide the bottom panel but not bar.
fair 'nuff
I don't think it's possible to switch it off. You can post a feature request on Issues · arduino/arduino-ide · GitHub.
If that is the Arduino IDE, it is simple to close the panel by clicking on the "console" icon in the lower-right of the display. However; It does not look like the Arduino IDE, so I think you need to ask the IDE author.
Yes it is the Arduino IDE in dark mode. the "console" icon makes the lower pane go away, not the status bar at the bottom.
Your external IDE saves at every character entry ?
I am still confused as to why you are complaining what is displayed by the Arduino IDE when editing programs when you don't use it for that anyway
I get the point.
@tinker_curt is using the IDE to compile and upload, benefiting from the IDE but prefers an external editor that he might be more familiar with or that offers better code editing capabilities.
if you have a large screen you can have those two windows/apps next to each other
It seems that every few key stroke he gets something blinking on the window which does not have his eye focus, which creates distraction. And I'm sympathetic to the fact that once you started noticing that it gets on your nerves.
It's not unheard from to have the possibility of hiding a status or message bar, many tools or text editor do so, so IMHO the ask has merit.
Whilst you can have the two windows fully visible at the same time but you don't have to and it serves no purpose for @tinker_curt. If something happening in the Arduino IDE window disturbs you then don't have to have it visible whilst editing
One thing that may be exacerbating the problem is that @tinker_curt seems to have moved the "bottom" pane of the IDE to the right of the editing window and has it open which makes the message even more prominent.
To bring a note of reality to this topic, I think that we can be reasonably sure that an option to turn off the language server or to hide the message is never going to be added to the IDE
Although I don't use what @tinker_curt uses I am completely sympathetic to the complaint of distracting things flashing when they really don't need to be. Flashing should be for attracting attention to something urgent. The worst offenders are flashing and otherwise moving advertisements, then they complain that I use ad blocking...
Having looked at the video clip, it's hard to see what the problem is.
It's part and parcel of looking at screens.
What I wouldn't discount is individual sensitivities to certain stimuli.
At this time of the year, just driving along tree-lined roads with bright flashes of light can trigger epileptic events.
Might be worth a chat with a professional to see if there is some underlying reason.
Long time habit of mine that I save very often. End of a line/thought/whatever. Ever lose work to a power outage? Not with UPSs and auto-save you don't, I know, but I did once "in the long ago" and picked up the practice.
I don't care about the feature, I just want the notification(s) suppressed.
The windows are next to each other for the purposes of the video, as noted in another post I frequently have both windows open in a multi-monitor setup.
... Until one starts flashing/spinning/blinking at me for no reason, then I have to hide it and say to myself.. "this time.. I will post about it!" well I finnally did ![]()
As you have discovered there is currently no way to turn off the message, so as I see it you have a number of options
- Don't use the Arduino IDE. Use an alternative solution
- Open a change request on GitHub but don't expect it to be changed soon, if ever
- Make the change yourself as the IDE is open source and contribute it to the IDE project
- Put up with it and hide the IDE window when not compiling/uploading a sketch
If you use a Mac it has multi desktop built in so put one screen on one desktop and the other on a second. Last time I used windows I had the same setup but I think it was through an addon.
Windows 11 has native support for multiple desktops but @tinker_curt seems determined to have the IDE in sight rather than hidden until he needs it
It's hard to be sympathetic when I am of an age where waking up isn't guaranteed any more.
