Hi @GastonMelo. In order to make sure I understand your question, please provide a detailed description of what you are attempting to accomplish. If you are following a tutorial, please provide a link to the tutorial.
I can take a guess at what you are asking about, but I don't like to provide support based on assumptions.
Hi ptillisch!! Im using now the arduino IDE 2.1 and I tried to use the SPIFFS to upload data to esp-01S. I followed every tutorial I can find - how to use the SPIFFS on esp8266. But with the IDE 2.1 is not working. As far I can look (its a problem related to java on new IDE) and in most forum until 2022 talk about using PlatformIO or older version of arduino. Now 2023 can't find anything related to this and my question is this:
How may I use with arduino IDE 2.1 the SPIFFS on 2023? How may a use the spi flash on esp8266 to store data?
Thanks
Gastón
The answer is you can't. This tool is only compatible with Arduino IDE 1.x. Arduino IDE 2.x will not recognize the installation of that tool.
You can install and use Arduino IDE 1.x for the purposes of having access to tools like "ESP8266 Sketch Data Upload". The Arduino IDE 1.x download links are listed here:
You can have Arduino IDE 2.x and 1.x installed at the same time without any problems so you are welcome to continue to use Arduino IDE 2.x as your everyday IDE, using Arduino IDE 1.x only when you have need to use tools like "ESP8266 Sketch Data Upload" tool.
The Arduino IDE 2.x developers are aware of the need to support extending the functionality of Arduino IDE 2.x as was possible with the "Tools" system of Arduino IDE 1.x:
There is actually some work in progress right now with the goal of resolving that deficiency. For example:
There is still a lot of work to do so the solutions I listed in my previous reply are what we have to work with now. But at least there is some hope of a future where tools like "ESP8266 Sketch Data Upload" can be added to Arduino IDE 2.x.
