I hope I'm not putting this in too wrong a place. I have no experience with making Arduino projects. I simply have this device that no longer works and the company that made it just disappeared without a trace. It works by a piezo transducer sending a vibration which turns on an LED strip. Is it an Arduino type of device? I hoped to ask people on this forum how I might go about repairing it. I have another one and when you tap the piezo it puts out 12v. If there's no vibration there's no voltage coming out. This one has a steady voltage coming out of 5v and only slightly dims when the piezo is tapped. Thanks for any suggestions.
Check soldering.
Check the IR receiver output.
Check the voltage regulator.
Check the transistors.
Swap the piezo.
Appreciate your replies. I'm afraid I'm very basic in my knowledge of circuit boards and their components but I do have a multimeter so I'll be exploring the places you said to check. I'm pretty sure it's not the piezo because I've tried a number of those. Thanks!
You did put it in the wrong place But even for those that can move it it's also not always clear cut where it fits best. I've moved your topic to a more suitable location on the forum.
It is not an Arduino, it is looking as a custom board. But it perhaps use an arduino code inside.
I am afraid you can't do much without schematic and code, except some basic tests, proposed in the post #4.
Try to explain how the board should work - it might be easier to design and build a new one than fix it
Since you have another one that's working, you could compare resistance readings between the two, looking for any difference. That's with the power off of course. Then if you're feeling lucky, test for voltage reading differences with the power turned on.
You may be able to create a schematic from the circuit .
Wonder if that’s an icsp programner socket top left ….
When I said my skills as far as circuit boards were basic I may have been overstating my knowledge but with that said I'm game to figure out what I can. Way back in 2012 I bought a version of this called Galaxy Drum Lights...Jered systems. I never could get it to work with my set up. It wasn't a typical one for it and the guy selling it gave me my money back. I was going to be out of the country for a while so asked if he could send me the schematic so maybe someone overseas could try to fix what wasn't working right. He did. I actually found the email today but it was only a link, which is now dead. I spent quite a bit of time trying to see if I might have it on an old hard drive but so far no luck. Maybe 5-6 years later I checked back with him and asked if there had been any improvements. He said there had. So I got the ones I have now. Part of the problem with the 2012 version was the fragility of the jacks and the types of jacks. I'm not sure if the circuit board changed much? Today, while searching I came across this page. https://www.instructables.com/Light-Up-Drum-Kit/ . The idea is the same although the circuit board looks quite different. Thanks.
